By integrating these skills into my teaching practice I have learned to integrate a deeper and more meaningful approach to my teachings and daily life.

For Teachers, Students, Counselors,
Administrators and All Staff!

Self Care in Schools™ is a grassroots movement developed by Kate Forest and Melissa Doe, with the support of teachers, students, counselors, nurses, administrators, and parents at the PK-University level. All programs include Self Care Skills and Mindful Living Practices to bring into the classroom and all areas of life to help our young people, our teachers, and all school community members release stress and anxiety, build focus, develop resilience, and practice greater kindness to themselves, others and our world to build social, emotional, physical and cognitive health.

Children and adolescents are not built to sit for extended periods of time and neither are adults. The Human body and mind function most effectively when given time to move, breathe, pause, rest, create, connect with nature, and when given quiet time for reflection.

These Self Care and Mindful Living Skills are built upon The Body, Mind, Breath Connection™ and range from ten seconds to ten minutes. Skills include short, simple Self Care Movement Breaks, Self Care Breathing Breaks, supportive thinking activities, mindful listening, mindful writing, mindful walking, conscious communication, and other self-reflective mindfulness activities that can be used anytime, anywhere, in all daily activities.

After a training, these skills can be immediately integrated into the classroom, at work, at play, and at home. They can be applied during morning meetings, transition times, advisories, and existing lessons. As well as in physical education classes, while walking the hallways, in the lunchroom, during conversations, at faculty meetings, during mealtime, and in group collaborations.

Learn to personally practice, and share with your students and families Self Care and Mindful Living Skills that build healthy habits of body and mind to create positive shifts in how you feel, react, live, teach, lead, and learn. With practice of these skills, you and your young people learn to be curious and engage your senses on a deeper level to more fully see, hear, feel, experience, and appreciate the moments of your lives, while improving focus and academic performance.

Bringing these short, simple skills to your school and families can help create an interconnected, supportive, and caring learning atmosphere to support the social and emotional needs of the entire community. As you and your young people improve your health with the principles, skills and practices in this program, you will be encouraged to take compassionate actions toward yourselves, others, and our world.  This positive energy will spread to those around you and create greater kindness within your relationships, your classroom, and your school community.

Self Care is World Care

"When we practice self care, even a few moments at a time, we have more patience, compassion, focus, physical health, emotional balance, and mental clarity to share with others. This will bring greater peace and kindness into our relationships, our communities, and our world." Kate Forest, RYT
